Jannik Sinner Opens Up About the Emotional Toll of His Doping Controversy with WADA

In a candid and emotional interview with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner has shared the personal struggles he faced during his recent doping controversy. The 21-year-old tennis star, who was cleared of any wrongdoing by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) earlier this year, spoke openly about the emotional toll the ordeal took on his mental health and well-being.
“It was a very difficult time for me,” Sinner said, his voice cracking with emotion. “I felt like my reputation was being torn apart, and I didn’t know how to defend myself. I felt like I was being judged by the entire world, and it was a very isolating experience. I remember waking up every morning, feeling like I was living in a nightmare. I couldn’t escape the feeling of being constantly scrutinized, constantly questioned. It was like I was under a microscope, and every move I made was being analyzed and criticized.”
Sinner, who has been open about his struggles with anxiety and depression in the past, revealed that the doping controversy pushed him to his limits. “There were times when I didn’t want to get out of bed, when I didn’t want to face the world,” he said. “I felt like I was losing myself, like I was losing my identity as a tennis player. It was a very dark time. I felt like I was drowning in a sea of negativity, and I didn’t know how to keep my head above water. I felt like I was all alone, like I had no one to turn to.”
Despite the challenges he faced, Sinner credited his support team, including his family, coaches, and mental health professionals, with helping him navigate the crisis. “I was lucky to have an amazing team around me,” he said. “They helped me to stay focused, to stay positive, and to remind me of who I am as a person and as a tennis player. My family was incredible, they were always there for me, listening to me, supporting me. My coaches were also amazing, they helped me to stay focused on my training, to keep my mind on the game. And my mental health professionals, they helped me to work through my emotions, to process everything that was happening.”
