Audits by Poland’s Supreme Audit Office (NIK) have raised concerns about Nawrocki’s management of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), where he served as president. The audits suggest that Nawrocki appointed individuals with close ties to the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party to key positions, potentially undermining the institution’s independence. Additionally, Nawrocki is accused of mismanaging approximately 15.4 million PLN (about 3.7 million EUR or 3.9 million USD) in public funds. Improper Use of Museum Property

Another significant issue involves Nawrocki’s tenure as director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk from 2017 to 2021. Reports indicate that Nawrocki and other museum officials may have used luxury museum-owned apartments without proper authorization, potentially for personal use. Nawrocki is alleged to have stayed in a deluxe suite for over 200 days, despite living just 5 kilometers away. He claims the apartment was used for quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic and for official meetings. However, the current museum leadership disputes this explanation, stating that the apartments were intended for commercial rental and guest accommodations, not personal use .

Alleged Criminal Associations

Nawrocki’s past has also come under scrutiny due to alleged associations with individuals linked to criminal activities. Reports suggest that Nawrocki has had connections with convicted criminals, including members of motorcycle gangs with neo-Nazi ties. For instance, he is said to have been acquainted with “Olgierd L.,” a convicted criminal involved in pimping and assault, and “Grzegorz H.,” linked to the outlawed neo-Nazi organization Blood and Honour. Nawrocki denies these allegations, stating that some of these individuals were encountered during professional activities, such as resocialization programs in prisons or at boxing gyms .
