Szeremeta startowała z list Konfederacji. Tyle dostała głosów

Julia Szeremeta is one of the hottest names in Polish sport in recent months. At the World Championships in Liverpool, she won silver despite struggling with an injury. Her successes in the ring are widely admired, but from time to time a subject resurfaces that the boxer herself would prefer to forget – a brief episode connected with politics. “Some people tried to make me into a political fanatic,” she recalled in one interview.
A brief flirt with politics
Before Szeremeta became well known thanks to her sporting achievements, she took part in the 2024 local elections. Her name appeared on the Confederation’s lists in the race for the Lublin Voivodeship Assembly. She won 1,409 votes – just one percent in her district – not enough to secure a seat. As she later admitted, she never conducted any campaign and never treated her candidacy seriously.
“I was kind of dragged into it, more or less unconsciously. I got one offer, then another. To have peace of mind, I agreed, but in reality I didn’t take part. I didn’t post anything online, I didn’t get involved, because politics has never interested me,” she said in an interview with Kanał Sportowy in August last year.
Coach’s reaction and consequences
The boxer’s decision caused tension within her team. Her coach, Tomasz Dylak, openly admitted he was unhappy ùùe, and we argued about it. I knew Julka would sooner or later become a star, and politics would only get in her way. While an athlete is pursuing a career, they should remain apolitical; later on, it’s their choice,” he stressed.
“Politics is not my thing”
Today, the athlete firmly distances herself from that episode. “I have never been interested in politics, and I’m still not. I never went to rallies, I don’t have any politicians’ banners in my home. The media tried to portray me as politically engaged, but I swallowed it and moved on. For me, sport and my career are what matter,” she said in an interview with WP SportoweFakty.
