A national pro-life organization has endorsed Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., in South Carolina’s closely watched Senate primary to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins announced the group’s endorsement Monday, portraying Norman as a proven pro-life conservative as he heads into an Aug. 25 Republican runoff against Sen. Darline Graham, Lindsey Graham’s sister.
“Ralph Norman represents a reliable, pro-life fighter in this race, and Students for Life Action is proud to endorse him for U.S. Senate,” Hawkins said in a release.
Norman and Darline Graham advanced from a crowded Aug. 11 Republican primary after neither secured the majority required to win outright. She finished first, and Norman finished second, setting up the runoff.
Students for Life Action said Norman signed its Pro-Life Candidate Pledge, committing to protecting life from conception, opposing taxpayer funding of abortion, and combating the distribution of abortion pills.
The organization also highlighted Norman’s support for its Pregnant Students’ Rights Act and his involvement in South Carolina’s effort to prevent Planned Parenthood from receiving state Medicaid funds.
Hawkins contrasted that record with Darline Graham’s past financial support for former South Carolina state Sen. Katrina Shealy, one of several Republican women who helped block a near-total abortion ban in the state in 2023.
Darline Graham has defended her position on the issue, declaring in July that she is “proud to be pro-life” and would stand up for unborn children, pregnant women, and families, according to the Washington Examiner.
Students for Life Action also criticized her for receiving support from Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who has broken with many conservatives on abortion policy.
The endorsement adds to Norman’s growing list of supporters.
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., and former primary rival Mark Lynch have backed him. Lynch endorsed Norman after the Aug. 11 primary.
Darline Graham, however, has powerful Republican support of her own, most notably from President Donald Trump.
Rep. Russell Fry, R-S.C., who finished third in the primary, endorsed her on Friday, joining Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and other Republicans supporting her campaign.
Students for Life Action plans to deploy a mobile billboard outside Tuesday’s Senate debate at the Newberry Opera House and said supporters will canvass for Norman over the Aug. 22-23 weekend.
“The Pro-Life Generation needs fighters in the U.S. Senate,” Hawkins said, “and Ralph Norman is exactly that kind of leader.”
