Iga Świątek’s Former Coach Returns to Work: His New Protégée Is Well-Known in Poland
It appears that Piotr Sierzputowski, former coach of Iga Świątek, is set to return to coaching ahead of the new tennis season. His new charge is a player familiar to Polish fans.
Piotr Sierzputowski, renowned for his work with Świątek, is returning to the tennis world as the coach of Dalma Gálfi, as announced on Polish Radio’s Program Three. The Hungarian player is currently ranked 126th in the WTA world rankings. She previously reached a career-high of No. 79 but has yet to win a title on the women’s tour.
Sierzputowski coached Świątek from 2016 to 2021, during which time she achieved significant milestones, including her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in 2020 and victories at the WTA 500 event in Adelaide and the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome in 2021.
After parting ways with Świątek, now the world No. 2, Sierzputowski worked as a tennis expert and commentator. He also coached Shelby Rogers and collaborated with Tomasz Berkieta. Rogers, an American player, recently retired from professional tennis.
Gálfi, Sierzputowski’s new student, is personally connected to Polish tennis as she is in a relationship with Polish doubles specialist Jan Zieliński. Zieliński achieved mixed doubles victories at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2024. While Gálfi has yet to secure a tournament win, she is seen as a player with untapped potential that Sierzputowski hopes to unlock.
