Five years on from her breakthrough at the All England Club as a 15-year-old, the American is back at the tournament as the second seed and a reigning Grand Slam champion.

Gauff, victorious at the US Open last summer, looks like a strong title contender this fortnight.

The world No 2 started her campaign with a convincing victory over compatriot Caroline Dolehide on Monday and again impressed as she dispatched Romanian qualifier Anca Todoni in round two on Wednesday.

Gauff has never made it past round four at Wimbledon but looks primed to do so this year, with her draw opening up nicely and her Grand Slam form among the very best in the women’s game.

And she has already hit an impressive milestone at SW19, with victories over Dolehide and Todoni her 50th and 51st at Grand Slam level this decade – becoming just the fourth woman to hit that number of wins.

The company she has emulated is certainly impressive.

1) Iga Swiatek – 73
There were no prizes for guessing who sat at No 1 on this list, with Swiatek conclusively the leading player of this decade.

The Pole memorably claimed her first Grand Slam title at the French Open in 2020, and has won five majors in total across the 2020s – three clear of any other WTA player.

Alongside her four French Open titles and her 2022 US Open win, the Pole has reached the last four of the Australian Open and a Wimbledon quarter-final.

Swiatek hasn’t lost before the third round of a Slam this decade, and victory over Sofia Kenin in round one of Wimbledon on Tuesday was a 73rd major win since 2020.
