Iga Swiatek continues her dominance of Coco Gauff to reach French Open final

Coco Gauff believed heading into Thursday’s French Open semifinal against Iga Swiatek that she could be the one to take down the world No. 1 who has been ruthlessly cutting her way through the draw. Their head-to-head record stood at 10-1 in favor of Swiatek, and the 23-year-old from Poland had moved through her previous two matches, against Anastasia Potapova and reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, dropping just two games combined.

“Potapova isn’t me. I’m not Vondrousova. It doesn’t mean anything,” Gauff said earlier this week.

The 20-year-old from Florida may have had the right mind-set, but against Swiatek, mind-set alone is hardly enough. It seems to barely matter who stands across the net from the four-time Grand Slam champion these days — she moves like a machine no matter the variances in her opponents’ styles or strengths.
