Randi, mother of Patrick Mahomes, continues to touch the broken hearts of Chicago Bears fans
One of the biggest “what ifs” in the NFL is what happened in 2017 when the Chicago Bears missed the opportunity of a lifetime. A very bitter memory that still hurts to this day.
Nearly eight years ago, the Chicago Bears, in need of a quarterback, surprised everyone by selecting Mitch Trubisky, a relatively inexperienced player from North Carolina, over Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson, despite having the third overall pick and moving up one spot.
In fact, his father, Pat Mahomes, has publicly stated that his son, Patrick, wanted to dress up as a Chicago Bear before they decided to move up. Unfortunately, they were crushed by Patrick-led Kansas City that same year.
Well, during that year’s draft, they missed the opportunity to sign Patrick Mahomes, they had him in their hands and they let him go, and the rest is history.
Patrick has written his name in golden letters with Kansas City, 3 Super Bowl championships in his trophy case and now he is looking for a third consecutive championship that would make it 4, but first they have to beat the Bills tonight.
Randi, mother of Patrick Mahomes and a memory that no one in Chicago wants to relive
Before the AFC Championship, Randi Mahomes shared a video on Instagram of her son’s original draft card, recalling his selection as the tenth pick by the Chiefs, right into the hearts of Bears fans:
“Sharing a #ProudParent moment! Holding onto this draft card brings back so many memories. It was a loss for one team but the biggest win for the Chiefs and for us! Watching Patrick’s hard work pay off is a blessing I’ll always be grateful for,” Randi wrote in the video.
Many wondered why the Bears didn’t draft him, as Josh Lucas, former Bears director of player personnel, confessed in an interview with the Chicago-Sun Times:
“He’s got a nervous energy that makes you wonder, ‘How calm is this guy? You’re about to hand him a franchise in the city of Chicago.'” But that wasn’t the only reason for his skepticism,” Lucas said.
