The European Federation of Journalists has officially announced that it will stop posting content on Elon Musk’s platform X, accusing the site of becoming a “machine of disinformation and propaganda.”
According to the federation, the platform has shifted dramatically under Musk’s ownership, pushing conspiracy theories, political misinformation, and rising hate speech—something they say threatens journalism rather than supporting it.
The decision comes after multiple European outlets raised alarms, claiming that the platform has become too toxic and ethically impossible to engage with. Several major news organizations in Europe have already reduced activity or stopped using X in recent months.
The move also follows fresh European regulatory pressure, including a major EU fine for transparency violations related to online safety rules. This adds more heat on Musk as questions rise about moderation, accountability, and truth on social media.
The EFJ says its departure is only the beginning, and more outlets are expected to follow.
