In the inaugural Chiefs Charity Spotlight introduced by Arrowhead Addicts, Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce is celebrated not only for his exceptional skills on the field but also for his significant contributions off the field. Kelce’s charity, Eighty-Seven & Running, highlights his commitment to uplifting underserved youth through various mentoring, outreach, and developmental programs.
Since 2015, Kelce has dedicated himself to motivating and assisting young individuals in overcoming obstacles by providing them with opportunities to acquire essential life skills. His philanthropic journey is inspired by his upbringing in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where he experienced a diverse environment alongside his brother, Jason Kelce.
Eighty-Seven & Running aims to empower youth across the United States by offering them access to educational, business, athletic, STEM, and artistic programs. The charity impacts thousands, exemplified by the provision of resources like remote learning supports and tutoring programs to over 2,300 children, according to the Executive Director of the Heights Schools Foundation.
A recent initiative saw Kelce’s charity distribute 25,000 meals in Kansas City with the help of partners like Kodiak Cakes, demonstrating their extensive efforts to fight child hunger and malnutrition. Alongside various corporations including Operation Breakthrough, Hy-Vee, and Community America, Eighty-Seven & Running is making strides toward nurturing the talents of disadvantaged youth across multiple sectors.
A notable project by the charity is the creation of the Operation Breakthrough Ignition Lab: Powered by 87 & Running. Kelce purchased a building in August 2020 to house this co-working space, which aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for Kansas City teens from violent and economically depressed neighborhoods. The lab focuses on career exploration in STEM fields, entrepreneurial ventures, and real-world job experience, promising to make a long-lasting impact on the community.
